Halaal Certification

Lots of confectionery & snacks in the market are sold as Halaal but according to our survey 90% conscious consumers are always confused about the source of the product and all its ingredients, like the E numbers, etc.

Having certification means consumers know their religious preferences are taken into consideration and now they can enjoy the sweets & snacks without ever having to compromise their faith.

Halaal Certification Our product goes through stringent checks for its ingredients and manufacturing facilities by the world renowned SANHA (Website: http://www.sanha.org.za) which is among the founder member of the World Halaal Council in conjunction with national certifying bodies in South East Asia.

Currently we are the ONLY CERTIFIED HALAL Children’s supplier in UK Certified By SANHA (South African National Halaal Authority) http://www.sanha.org.za

This is from SANHA’s website link:

Regarding gelatine, Certain Ulama contend that a drastic metamorphic change occurs thereby rendering the impure collagenous protein into Halaal gelatine.

Majority of the Ulama and International Halaal certification bodies are of the view that such metamorphic change does NOT occur and therefore they do not accept gelatine from Haraam animal raw material as Halal.

SANHA's Theological Committee holds the latter view and therefore recommend that all products containing gelatine from non-Halaal sources be avoided.” This view was also adapted by the Malaysian government’s halaal department, certifying bodies in Indonesia, Singapore, USA, Netherlands, Germany, and Thailand. VOC (Alia Limbada)

Question: There has been quite a lot of controversy regarding the Gelatine issue. It is alleged that most of the Ulama accept gelatine from non-Halaal animals as Halaal on the basis of transformation and metamorphosis.

Answer: Some Ulama contend that there is a drastic change in the non-Halaal animal material used in gelatine manufacture thereby rendering non-Halaal animal material as Halaal. The SANHA Fatwa Committee does not concur with this view and has adopted a very holistic position on gelatine and other such ingredients of non-Halaal animal origin used in food production.

This committee has ruled that the use of non-Halaal animal raw material is not acceptable in the manufacture of food products due to the fact that abundance of Halaal raw material is available. They have also argued that why should we as Muslims look for technical loopholes (metamorphosis etc.) to justify the use of Haraam animal raw materials in food production. Food producers should be made cognisant and aware of the needs of Muslims and should accordingly procure Halaal raw materials. The global Muslim population constitutes almost 1.8 billion people and most of this community is not vegetarian i.e. we are consumers of meat. Furthermore, we are not faced with such a predicament that gelatine-based products cannot be avoided.

"Remember, the industry will only change if we present our requirements and assert our needs."

The Fatwa committee is made up of expert Scholars representing the following organizations:

  • Jamiatul Ulama Transvaal
  • Jamiatul Ulama KZN
  • Council of Ulama Eastern Cape

  • Majlisud Dawah, W.Cape
